Out of boredom and maybe pedantry I created a replacement frame for the Gallery2 module Imageframe. It looks almost perfect. One downer, though, is a little shadow irregularity within the frame images no one is probably ever gonna notice.
UPDATE: It’s 3:13h in the morning now and eight hours ago I was wanting to get pizza. Well, I am still hungry but those glitches are gone.
The frame theme comes in two sizes. I’d recommend the smaller version for use with the WPG2 Sidebar or Sidebar Block. In Gallery2 I use the larger version as my Photo Frame and the smaller for Item and Album Frame. Since I use the WordPress plugin WPG2 I paid extra attention to the compatibility with WordPress.
Download the real_polaroids.
Here’s the installation guide (for those new to the matter).
Installation (Gallery2):
- Copy the real_polaroids folder (whichever size you like) into the directory modules/imageframe/frames
- The “imageframe” module must be installed and activated.
- In the Gallery2 admin panel go to “Themes” and choose “Polaroids - The Real Deal” at the very bottom of the page as either Album, Item or Photo Frame.
Activation under WPG2:
- In WordPress go to your WPG2 panel and select the ‘Real Polaroid’ frame for your Sidebar or Sidebar Block.
- My installation of WPG2 did not recognize other frames than the standard ones, so I replaced the existing polaroids frame images AND frame.inc while keeping its original folder. Then chose the polaroids frame in my WPG2 options.
- To display the Sidebar Block you have to insert <?php print g2_sidebargridblock(); ?> somewhere in your sidebar or elsewhere in your code, if you haven’t already done that.
I tested the small Polaroid frame with block images in sizes from 85 to 200px with decent results. Below that they look kinda quirky. If you want a bigger display I would go with the normal sized frame.
This frame theme and its images are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike Licence. So it is free for personal and commercial use.
However, if you find it useful I would appreciate a blog post or an email.
Enjoy!

Would have been great if you had posted a screenshot or atleast a link to a gallery using this…
You’re totally right, Ryan.
Sorry about that. At the time of the post there had been a random picture from my gallery in the sidebar using the WPG2 frame.
As soon as my private internet works again, I’ll post some screenshots.
Cheers
